THE 4 C'S FOR IMPACTFUL COMMUNICATION (TO HELP YOU GROW YOUR BUSINESS)
HOW FINDING YOUR "SPECIAL SAUCE" IMPROVES YOUR CONFIDENCE (& YOUR BUSINESS!)
I know you want to make an impact on the lives of your clients. And in order to work with them, your site visitors & readers need to 'click' or 'call' — on a practical level, you need to communicate with them so they can do just that! But creating marketing materials or a website without any thought or preplanning is inefficient and ineffective!
A few moments of pause for the 4 C's (as I like to call them) will help you create compelling communication that supports your business.
HOW GREAT DESIGN HELPS THE SUCCESS OF YOUR BUSINESS
"Liking yourself a rebellious act" – Caroline Caldwell
That's easier said than done sometimes, right? But oh-so important. And I've found that running my own business has helped with this, actually. (And I'm sure it can help you, too!)
THE IMPACT OF DO-GOOD, FEEL-GOOD BUSINESSES
Have you ever heard that in order to sell your services, you need your potential client to feel like they know you, they like you, and they trust you?
And it’s one (well, three) of the big reasons why great design is important. If the design is weak, it gives a subconscious (or conscious in some cases) vibe about the dependability and integrity of you/your brand. Impactful design helps to give subconscious trust.
Here are a couple of ways to help your potential client get to know, like & trust you through design (there are more, but I don't want this to be overwhelming!):
BUSINESS HACKS AND RESOURCES
You’ve been around here long enough to know that I’m a web & brand designer for do-good, feel-good businesses™… but have you ever wondered what I really mean when I say that?
Have you wondered whether your business qualifies under that umbrella? To me, “do-good, feel-good” is about the impact you’re trying to make.
GETTING THROUGH THE "MESSY MIDDLE" OF BUSINESS
I'm popping in during this first full week of fall in the northern hemisphere (which, by the way, I took a bit too literally this weekend – fell twice on our Saturday hike!) to share:
SQUARESPACE’S EMAIL PLATFORM
It’s water lily season here and I’m loving them — obviously, the pink ones are my favorite. I recently learned that they’re similar, but not the same as lotuses. Every time I stare at, and attempt to photograph the water lilies, I think of this phrase…
BLOCKING THE SHOULD’S ON THE “VIRTUALLY FREE” PODCAST
Popping in with a quick note, as I head into family vacation mode, to tell you about a new functionality within Squarespace. (Some of my clients have asked about it, and I realized I should share this info with everyone!)
WHY YOU MAY NEED MULTIPLE LOGOS
I experienced something new & unexpected recently. I had recorded an episode for Amy Demone's new pod ("Virtually Free") a few months ago... long enough ago that I honestly didn't really remember what I'd said.
WHAT THE HECK IS GDPR?!
I thought it would be fun (and hopefully helpful) to share an aspect from behind-the-scenes of the design process. Especially if you’re thinking about getting a new logo — either DIY’ing it, or hiring a designer, there’s something unexpected to consider.
YOUR OPRAH MOMENT
GDPR is the General Data Protection Regulation, and it goes into effect tomorrow in the EU. It regulates how businesses collect, use & process personal data.
WHAT IS TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (& WHY YOU NEED IT)
A few weeks ago I met a client at a beautiful place where she teaches meditation & yoga. The following week I came back to take (an amazing) class again, and I topped off the yoga-sundae with a figurative cherry — walking their gorgeous grass labyrinth. And during that walk I had a big thought inspired this email...
NAVIGATING THE SEASONS OF YOUR BUSINESS
Do you have 2-factor authentication set up for your email or other accounts?
GROW YOUR BUSINESS THROUGH DELIGHTING YOUR CLIENTS
In the northeast it’s freaking nasty outside, and I know there’s very snowy weather in the midwest. It’s discouraging. The cold makes it reeeeally hard to get out of bed at a reasonable hour. Most of us are saying “where the F is spring!?” (Bravo, if you’re not, but there’s still some good stuff in this note for you.)
DOING SOMETHING NEW
Has your vacation ever inspired you to examine your business? Mine has. This weekend, my love & I stayed in a tiny house in New Hampshire. We’re slightly obsessed with tiny houses, and Getaway has a batch of them on many acres of woods — it’s a cross between a tiny house hotel & airbnb.
A BIG MAGIC PEP TALK
I was on a podcast for the first time this week! One my favorite people, Kate K. McCarthy, is the host of Amplify: A Podcast for Creative + Courageous Entrepreneurs, and I'm SO honored to be a guest!
DON'T DELETE YOUR FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE
A few weeks ago a client reminded me of part of the book Big Magic where she explains that you’re depriving the world when you don’t share your gifts & brilliance.
PRODUCTIVITY TIP FOR MANAGING THE OVERWHELM
I hope 2018 is treating you kindly so far! In case you missed it, my furbaby had surgery (she’s recovering well) and Facebook announced some “big changes” for FB pages.
CONVERT YOUR VISITORS WITH IMPACTFUL CALLS TO ACTION
You know those weeks where you have so much going on in your personal life AND you're also feeling super inspired and ready to share all of your services with the world, and together your mind just spins and spins!? Yeah, that's me this week.
A WINTER SOLSTICE TRADITION FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
Today I'm sharing practical wisdom for how you can convert readers into clients. Whether you have a website or you're creating a flyer, it's important to have a "call to action."
Happy Winter Solstice! In the northern hemisphere we have the shortest day, which means that starting tomorrow, we'll start getting a little bit more sunlight. Today is the pause before the light returns. Like the space between the inhale & exhale. And we can use that as inspiration in our biz (and life).
